Garrett Zone Leader In Peru MTC

Hola famila,

I did not get you last e-mail and therefore your questions so i could not answer them haha. Sound like home is pretty much the same there, but Fourth of July sounds like you had a lot of fun. You should have gone up to the celebrity golf tournament, that would have been awesome. Maybe i will try and send some pictures later today if i can get my camera to work on the computers here. So once again it is awesome here and a lot has happened. We are starting a new pilot program this week were everything is without Latino companions. We will learn a lot more Spanish, i am way excited because i will be learning a lot more Spanish. And twice now i have slept through an earthquake here. Well that's what my companions say, i guess there are a lot of earth quakes here. Last Saturday when we went tracting it was aw some. They asked me where we should go and what house and with the spirit i picked one. We ended up getting into the house and giving him a Libro de Mormon. The rest of the day was just as good. We got into 8 houses and taught them. All of this in around 6 hours. I have also been asked to be a zone leader, so i'm in the big leagues now, haha. All the new missionaries are coming in today so i am excited to meet my new companion. How many dates has Michael been on? So in a few days you can start sending all my mail to my mission home...Calle Los Naranjos Mz H, Lt 4 Urb. Los Geranios Piura PERU and you should tell Colin to write me. I also got A door slammed in my face that was a good experience and also got called a gringo...i'm pretty cool. I also heard that the food outside of the CCM is better than in here, and i love the food here...but is just mostly chicken and rice. How is dad's Spanish coming? You going to be able to talk to me when i get home? I wish i could write more but i don't have much time. LOVE ELDER PENNEY

Garrett Hits The Town Of Lima, Peru

Holla, well a lot happened this week. Last Tuesday we went to the temple, which was really cool! Its supper pretty, but pretty small. After we did that we went shopping at a store called Toddos. It is sorta like a small Walmart. It was cool being out on the streets and doing something different than staying in the CCM. I bought some good food like Oreos haha and some soda. The Sacremento temple is still my favorite, I think. Then last Saturday we went tracting, contacting less active members. That was an awesome experience. They took us on a bus ride to a chapel like 30 minutes away and we went from there. They gave us the addresses and we had a member or a teacher with us to help guide us what to say and where to go. Their addresses make no sense. I am to tall here and the people here talk quietly, so it is really hard for me to hear them which makes it harder for me to understand them. And the people here are a lot more friendly and touchy haha its awesome. There are like a million dogs everywhere too. I tried to ignore them. So twice now we have had hot dogs for breakfast which is weird for me but whatever. We also have not seen the sun the whole time we have been here, except for like a 1 hour all together. It's always foggish. For yesterday for 4th of July the comador cooks made us french fries and fried chicken and some sort of hamburger patty. It was pretty good but still nothing like home. In our district we also sung patriotic hymns all day. So don't be surprised that I shinned my shoes for the first time yesterday, yes I know I am stepping up in this world. And in a presentation 2 days ago they showed us their German Coast Guard video from youtube "what are you sinking about?". I also have lost 5 lbs since coming to the CCM from the MTC. Mom, did an old lady call you a few weeks ago? Because my first TRC lesson I taught in Provo, I taught this old lady and she wanted my number too call my mom and tell here what a "good" job I did. I got your letter you sent a while back, thank you. I still love it here, it is much better than the Provo MTC. Next week I get a new companion, because they all leave to go out to the field. With lots of love, Elder Penney

Garrett Makes It To Lima Peru

Well i made it to Peru. sorry dad i was not able to call you. our flights got delayed and we had to run to our next plane to make it to Peru. but i love you very much. sorry wiss and Ashley and Seth i was not able to call you either. We got the the CCM at 3 this morning. the CCM(mtc) is so much nicer here that it is in Provo. it is a lot smaller but alot newer and prettier! We all get native companions, my new companion´s name is elder trajilio, he is from Columbia. He likes basketball more than futbol which is awesome. He is really nice from what i can tell, cause i don't understand pretty much everything that he is saying. He was also a policeman in Columbia. Haha so i guess i will have to learn fast. In 3 weeks i will get a new native companion when elder trajilio goes into the field. although the beds are smaller here so my legs hang out like 4 more feet. I did get my fill of chocolate milk at the Provo mtc...well for now. Did you ever get a elderly lady call you? because for my first TRC she wanted my number so she could call my mom and tell her how well i did...but i did not do that well haha. And yes i am known for movie quotes in my old district. I sat next to a guy on the way here who has a friend that was in charge of the final 4 so he got a press pin and was allowed to go anywhere...like anywhere even to interview the players. He got them for 5 years, and he interviewed the famous 5 or whatever they were called. The college team with Chris Webber. Dad i still need my priesthood line of authority please. And i need you email Dylan's dad to see how much to pay the lawyer. Peru is awesome! there is a little bit of a different smell and in is quite humid but i love it here. It is fun trying to communicate with the natives. There buzzed our head like the military, everyone lined up and went in and got their hair shaved off. I have seen a McDonalds (which is a higher end restaurant here) Domino's, pizza Hut, and a Golds gym. The food this morning was bread, cereal, yogurt, some egg stuff, and this drink thing. It was ok, not as much food as the MTC though, there is only 2 people there serving you food. Compared to most of the other non-natives i speak pretty good Spanish, but that really does not mean much. Love you all and miss you. ELDER PENNEY
My goles for my mission are: 1-work hard every day, the whole time and use my time wisely. 2- don't like my shyness hold me back. Be more aggressive and not passive.
